Analia Segal – transforming space...

Analia Segal, a renowned New York-based artist, originally from Argentina, exhibits at Galleri Tapper-Popermajer in Teckomatorp.

Because of a Guggenheim scholarship, Segal got the opportunity to travel to Sweden and to exhibit at the gallery. The exhibition will center around site-specific installations by the artist. Also, a limited number of the artist´s original drawings will be on display.


"A wall is the place where the human body entwines with its habitat. It is the arena where sensuality and rationalism coexists. This body of installations examines the relationship between the body and one's immediate surroundings. By manipulating the surface of a wall or tiles, I am transforming the architectural space into a locus for exploration. The fleshy quality they acquire as a result of this interaction reinforces the contrast between the transience of the body and the endurance of architecture. The subtle alterations in the nature of these architectural settings provoke and challenge our perceptual possibilities. We transform the places we inhabit while we are being transformed by them; they become our caves, spaces for revelations.

Analia Segal – omvandlingar av det arkitektoniska rummet

Analia Segal, en välkänd New York-baserad konstnär, ursprungligen från Argentina, ställer ut på Galleri Tapper-Popermajer i Teckomatorp.

Då Segal förra året erhöll ett Guggenheim stipendium erbjöds hon möjligheten att resa till Sverige och ställa ut på galleriet i Teckomatorp. Segals utställning kommer att kretsa kring plats-specifika installationer utförda av konstnären. Dessutom kommer ett begränsat antal av konstnärens original-skisser att visas.


Utställningen invigs lördagen den 26 april, kl 12.00 - 16.00

"En vägg är platsen där den mänskliga kroppen beblandas med sin omgivning. Det är arenan där sensualitet och rationalism samexisterar. Utställningens installationer utforskar relationen mellan kroppen och våra omedelbara omgivningar. Genom att manipulera ytan på en vägg eller kakelplattor, transformerar jag det arkitektoniska rummet till en plats för utforskning. Den köttiga kvalitet som erhålls som ett resultat av denna interaktion förstärker kontrasten mellan kroppens tillfällighet och arkitekturens varaktighet. De små ändringarna i de arkitektoniska förutsättningarna provocerar och utmanar våra perceptuella möjligheter. Vi omvandlar platserna vi befinner oss i alltmedan vi transformeras av dom; de blir våra grottor, rum för uppenbarelser. Jag tror viljan kan försvåra vår perception.
